Still there are seeds to be gathered, and room in the bag of stars.”—Ursula Le Guin, American Author

Kernel is a physical sculpture and augmented reality experience presented at Pioneer Works in New York as part of Biophilic Cities, an event supported by Science Sandbox and the New Museums’s art and technology incubator NEW INC. Kernel was later shown in Seoul as part of the launch of an Ader Error and Converse collaboration.

Kernel is an experimental object existing in both physical and digital space. An augmented reality app allows the physical sculpture to germinate, spawning new virtual life forms. Kernel explores the different ways that memory can be encoded as data in biological and artificial systems.
